Priyanka Gandhi Vadra: Rahul is working to bring in positive change in U.P, not for his reputation PDF Print E-mail
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra while interacting with media in Amethi said that her brother Rahul Gandhi is working to bring in positive change in U.P and not for his reputation.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was asked again whether she would be joining politics and she answered with a smile “I have been answering this question since I was fifteen years old. And the answer has been constant and the same. But you don’t want to accept my answer for this question. If I ever want to join politics you will know immediately”.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that in state assembly elections, the local issues play a bigger role.
When asked how she did get the nickname of bhaiyyaji she replied “It was the SPG who gave me the nick name when I was 13-14 and I can tell you that I didn’t like the nick name when I got it. But it has now filtered down to the workers over here and they also started calling me bhaiyyaji. May be because I have short hair and I was looking boyish when I was kid”.
On a question whether UP election will be having any impact on Rahul Gandhi’s reputation she answered “What does staking too much mean? On his reputation? It is not the reputation that matters, but his work which matters for him. He is not concerned about his reputation. Only cowards do not lead from the front?”
About Gandhi’s commitment to bring in changes in the state of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said “I too had asked him during the last elections the same question. I had told him that organization was not strong (that time) and so why you are putting in so much effort? People may raise fingers against you. Then he made me understand that he was not bothered about all these and he is concentrating only on his works. He wanted to strengthen the Congress and bring in positive changes in the state”.
“You understand what the condition is here in U.P. There has been politics of anarchy and opportunism in the state. Nothing has been happening either for the people or towards development. So he has been trying to bring about changes and not for building his reputation” added Priyanka Gandhi.
Appreciating the efforts of her brother Rahul Gandhi in the assembly elections Priyanka Gandhi said “As I understand that the mandate my brother is trying to set is not against, but for the development of the state. It is for the fact that this state being the most populous state in this country is lagging behind other states in development. I think the agenda he is going to set is that we need a politics of development. And that all other kinds of politics whether they are based on caste, based on religion, or whether it is corrupt politics, opportunistic politics is not the kind of politics that should prevail in the country”.
When asked whether Rahul Gandhi is soft towards anybody, Priyanka Gandhi immediately quipped, “I do not think that my brother is soft towards anyone. If you would have heard his speeches – I have been hearing his speeches – I don’t think he has been soft towards anyone”.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was asked by the media who is the outsider for the people of U.P - Rahul, Priyanka or Uma Bharati - she shot back “You will have to ask the people of U.P regarding that”.
About Congress’ chances in the assembly elections she said “I can’t predict anything on that but I have full confidence that Congress will perform well this time”.
When asked whether Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister or the Congress President, Priyanka Gandhi replied “You people always try to analyse the politics of Rahul Gandhi in terms of whether he should become the Congress President or Prime Minister.  But Rahul Gandhi does not do so. Same case is with our family. We are bothered only about the work to be done. If he decides to do any work then he is determined to complete it. You see what he has been doing in Youth Congress? He is trying to bring in tremendous changes in YC. There are no free and fair democratic elections in any other organization other than the Youth Congress. What he has been doing in Youth Congress will have a positive impact in Congress also. That is his political career. If it is necessary that he will have to become Congress President or any other post to bring in changes, he will have to do then; otherwise he will continue with his efforts”.
“My brother is already good enough for it. But I don’t think that should be the central point of his political career. And I think we have an extremely good Prime Minister. We are fortunate to have a Prime Minister who is so honest and who works well and I think no question arises at this moment” said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra when she was asked whether Rahul Gandhi will be eligible for beaming the Prime Minister after a victory for Congress in U.P.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra then responded to the allegations of BJP against the Home Minister P Chidambaram and said “I feel as a Home Minister he has an enormous and huge responsibility towards the people of this country.  I just feel sad that every time I see that he has to waste his time responding to the ranks of people who are unconcerned about the issues he has to actually deal with. They take away from precious time that he should be devoting towards the country and his responsibilities towards this country. And I feel the same about our government. I feel that it is sad on how much time is wasted on not allowing the Government to function”.
When again asked whether Rahul Gandhi will become PM she asked “Does this have anything to do with this UP election?”
She said with a smile while leaving the place.
