“During elections, leaders like Mulayam Singh and Mayawati come to you and shower promises. The poor labourers and farmers shed their sweat and blood and develop the country. But these leaders do not respect them. They loot your money. Ahead of elections they come to you and make tall promises. After coming to power, they forget the people. Congress President Sonia Gandhi while addressing the Parliament on the occasion of 60th Anniversary of the first sitting of Parliament of India said, “Sixty five years ago, India awakened to freedom with a bold and ambitious vision. A vision to build legislature on the basis of universal adult franchise. At one stroke millions of our poor and illiterate men and women were given the power to change their destiny. Let us not forget those troubled days and months and the numerous challenges the country faced then. Congress President Sonia Gandhi attended the 105th birthday celebrations of the highly respected Lingayat seer Shivakumara Swami at 'Siddaganga Mutt' at Tumkur in Bangalore, which is considered to be one of India's oldest religious institutions.
